Jay James, one-fourth of the best-selling group The Overtones has launched My Diabetes Day,  a new platform and community hub encouraging others to share their stories to provide peer support, hope, and inspiration to all individuals and families living with Type 1 diabetes.

On the 22nd of August 2022, Jay’s son, Franklin, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just 3 years old. Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong, incurable autoimmune disease that affects approximately 400,000 people in the UK.

Jay’s band, The Overtones are avid supporters of the My Diabetes app, they like Jay are keen to raise awareness of Diabetes Type 1 so are actively promoting Type 1 diabetes fundraisers and charities during their current tour and with their new Christmas single, ‘Christmas Everyday’. Additionally, they have pledged to make substantial donations from the proceeds of their new single to the fundraising efforts of ‘My Diabetes Story’ in direct support of JDRF and Diabetes UK.

Speaking of the track, Mike from The Overtones said: “It’s been 4 years since our last Christmas Single! The fact we’re back out on the road for our biggest ever Christmas tour, really means it will be ‘Good Times’ with ‘Christmas Everyday’. This is a feel good Christmas classic in the making and we can’t wait for people to hear it and see them singing it! Naturally this also combines with raising awareness for something so close to our hearts. Seeing what little Franklin, Jay and all the family have been through in the last year has been heartbreaking, it equally opened our eyes to what Type 1 diabetes is. We simply had no idea. We’re proud to support them and the diabetes community in the best way we can.”

The platform also involves Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent star & finalist Tom Ball, who is also a type 1 diabetic and has joined The Overtones as a special guest on their UK Good Times Tour.
