The Traitor in the Game is Triona Campbell’s second YA novel, following on from A Game of Life and Death.
Asha Kennedy uncovered the dark secret at the heart of Virtual Reality game ‘Shackle’ – You don’t play the game; it plays you – and must now go deeper into a dangerous world of corruption and greed: who is the puppet master of the game and what is their ultimate goal?
Set in New York, this is a whiplash-paced, twisty mystery and scorching romance where Asha’s enemies may be closer than she could ever imagine…
A Traitor in the Game was one of those books that the second I turned the last page of A Game of Life and Death, I knew I just had to read.
The world Triona has built and continues to weave in A Traitor in the Game is epic. It’s an immensely satisfying read, in which Asha learns that her enemies are closer than she thinks and realises that what she and her team(and friends) have stumbled across is way bigger than just Shackle, which was bad enough.
The latest instalment really shows lots of character growth for Asha as she is betrayed by someone she would never have imagined. She tries to find the boy she loves and refuses to believe the worst. This is a book packed with romance ( Team Dark all the way), intrigue and keeps you on the edge of your seat turning the pages.
The ending is an epic cliffhanger, with my jaw on the floor, as if I had not expected it. But it makes you eager for the third book.
I love what Triona has created with these books and am very excited to see what happens next to Asha, Dark and the rest of her friends.
