Manchester’s indie-rock scene is buzzing with the emergence of People Person, a dynamic quartet that’s been making waves since their formation in 2024. Comprised of Adam Grealish (vocals/guitar), Blake Grimshaw (guitar), Max Ritchie (bass), and Nat Coop (drums), the band has swiftly carved out a niche with their mature sound and compelling live performances.

Their debut EP, “Going Back With My Friends,” released in August 2024, showcased their versatility and depth. Tracks like “Venus” and “Your Eyes” highlighted their ability to blend introspective lyrics with captivating melodies. Critics praised the EP for its genre-fluid approach, noting how Adam and Blake’s guitars navigate various sonic landscapes seamlessly.

Building on this momentum, People Person is set to release their latest single, “Footing.” Produced by Seadna McPhail, known for his work with Doves and The Orielles, the track delves into the challenges of balancing personal aspirations with societal expectations. Grealish penned the song during a transitional period when many of his friends were heading to university, while he opted to work full-time. This experience of juggling work commitments with a vibrant social life, coupled with the logistical challenges of commuting from Bolton to Manchester, deeply influenced the song’s narrative.

I began writing the track as a lot of my friends were going to university, but I had decided to do
a year of just working a full time job. When I tried to live like all my friends who were going out
all the time, and balance that with working, I was constantly drained and it felt like I was living a
double life.”
frontman Adam Grealish states, “I felt a lot of distaste towards Manchester, which has always been the city I love, as my transport options living in Bolton at the time were never
easy and made everything I was feeling so much more amplified.”

Sonically, “Footing” melds shoegaze-inspired guitars reminiscent of Wolf Alice with Adam’s powerful baritone vocals, evoking shades of Bruce Springsteen. This fusion creates a sound that’s both nostalgic and refreshingly contemporary.

To celebrate the single’s release, People Person has lined up performances in Manchester and Birkenhead during the release weekend. Fans can also look forward to a UK summer tour, culminating in a hometown headline show at The Rat and Pigeon on July 12th. Given their track record of sold-out shows, including a memorable night at Band on the Wall, these upcoming gigs are not to be missed.
