Noah Kahan is heading to Panem.

The singer-songwriter has recorded Draw You Out for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, with the song set to arrive on 2 October as the first single from the film’s official soundtrack.

And this isn’t a case of simply finding an existing Noah song that happens to fit Haymitch Abernathy’s story.

Draw You Out was written specifically for and inspired by the film, with Noah reuniting with Aaron Dessner to create it. The pair co-wrote the track, with Aaron also co-producing during sessions at Long Pond Studio in New York and Gold Pacific Studios and East Iris Studios in Nashville.

Aaron and Noah previously worked together on The Great Divide, alongside longtime collaborator Gabe Simon, so we’re very intrigued to hear what they’ve come up with for The Hunger Games.

Particularly because Draw You Out is just one part of a pretty huge soundtrack.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) arrives on 13 November and features 29 tracks, with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb serving as executive producer.

All of the music is previously unreleased and exclusive to the album, with the tracklist including intriguingly familiar titles such as The Old Therebefore and Deep in the Meadow alongside three separate tracks titled The Raven.

There are also arena mixes of Ruthless, Doing The Best That I Can and Survive, while Noah’s Draw You Out appears towards the end of the album at track 27.

Of course, there’s a pretty important reason Haymitch is suddenly getting his own soundtrack.

Sunrise on the Reaping takes us back 24 years before the original Hunger Games story, with Joseph Zada taking on the role of a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy as he’s reaped for the 50th Hunger Games.

And this isn’t an ordinary year in the arena.

It’s the Second Quarter Quell, meaning twice the usual number of tributes are selected. Haymitch eventually forms an alliance with fellow District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner, played by Mckenna Grace, as he begins pushing back against the Capitol and a much younger President Snow.

Anyone who has read Suzanne Collins’ novel already knows there’s a lot more to Haymitch’s history than we understood when we first met him all those years ago. Now we’re going to see that history play out on screen.

The film also stars Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, alongside Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke, Whitney Peak and Kelvin Harrison Jr., with Francis Lawrence returning to direct.

For Noah, Draw You Out comes during an already massive year following the release of his fourth album The Great Divide and its accompanying Netflix documentary Noah Kahan: Out of Body, alongside his sold-out world tour.

But there’s something particularly interesting about hearing a songwriter like Noah step into somebody else’s story for a change.

We’ll find out exactly what Haymitch inspired when Draw You Out arrives on 2 October.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping (The Album) follows on 13 November, before the film arrives in cinemas on 20 November.
