Rising alt-pop stars Only The Poets are back and making a statement. Their brand-new single, ‘I Keep On Messing It Up’, is the first taste of an exciting new era for the band—one that blends their signature energy with a fresh, pop-driven sound that’s impossible to ignore.
Following a massive 2024—packed with millions of streams, sold-out headline shows across the UK and Europe, and even a stint on tour with Yungblud—the Reading-based quartet keeps the momentum going in 2025. And with a new label home at Capitol Records UK (Republic in the US), they’re setting their sights higher than ever.
‘ I Keep Messing It Up’: A Song That Hits Hard—But Feels Good
Written by frontman Tommy Longhurst after a breakup, ‘I Keep On Messing It Up’ is an anthemic reflection on self-sabotage disguised as a bright and infectious banger. Longhurst teamed up with fellow Reading native and producer Dandlion, marking their first collaboration since Longhurst started songwriting as a teen. With shimmering ’80s-inspired guitars, bouncy keys, and a hook that refuses to leave your brain, the track offers a fresh take on heartbreak—one that’s both deeply personal and wildly uplifting.
“The clue is in the title; there’s a bit of self-sabotage going on,” Longhurst explains. “I love the juxtaposition—the lyrics are quite dark, but the sound is so bouncy and bright that it feels hopeful. It just feels really different for us.”
What’s Next for Only The Poets?
The band debuted eight brand-new songs at a special underplay show in London earlier this year, giving fans a taste of what’s to come. With a huge European tour and their first-ever US shows (which sold out almost instantly), Only The Poets are proving that their music transcends borders.
“The most wild thing that’s happened is selling out New York in minutes, and we’ve never even been there. That’s the music making that happen, and it feels amazing,” says Longhurst.
With ‘I Keep On Messing It Up’ out now and a tour ahead, Only The Poets are on the brink of something massive. If this is just the beginning of their next chapter, we can’t wait to see what’s next.
