The Knights Rebellious Maiden by Ella Matthews. Ella writes medieval romances for Mills &Boon. This is the first book in the Knights Missions series.

He’s her protector…

She’s his forbidden temptation!

Part of The Knights’ Missions. Sir Leopold’s first mission is supposed to be a chance to prove his valour. But, tasked with safely escorting Lady Arianwen to her husband-to-be, Leo finds he is little but a glorified bodyguard. Only the seemingly simple mission goes awry when Ari proves that she’s willing to do anything to get away from her impending nuptials. As attraction sparks between them, can Leo choose knightly duty over love and deliver Ari to her wedding?

The Knights Rebellious Maiden is basically medieval catnip for anyone who loves a slow-burn, forbidden romance with a dash of runaway-bride chaos. And honestly? Ella Matthews knows her audience. She gives us knights in literal shining armor, daring escapes, and just the right sprinkle of tension.

While the chemistry is undeniable, the pacing occasionally stumbles. There are moments where the inner monologues get a little repetitive, like they’re caught in a medieval “should I or shouldn’t I” loop. While the stakes are high, sometimes I wish the external conflicts were a tad sharper to really push them to the edge.

Overall, Ella nails the push-and-pull of duty vs. desire, and by the end, you’ll be cheering for Leo and Ari like they’re your problematic faves at a medieval reality show finale.
