Love, laughter, and a few sleepless nights — dance power couple Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec are spinning a new tale of joy as they open up about their journey into parenthood with their adorable daughter, Lyra Rose. In their beautifully raw short film, Dancing Through Change, which premiered on YouTube just in time for Mother’s Day, the couple pull back the curtain on what it’s really like to juggle careers in the spotlight while navigating the brand new (and slightly chaotic) world of parenting.
And it doesn’t stop there! Thanks to the incredible response from fans worldwide, Janette and Aljaž are keeping the conversation going. They’ve just announced Dancing Through Change: Live Screening, an exclusive one-off event in London on Monday, April 28th. Expect all the feels, as attendees (a lucky mix of competition winners and invited guests) will enjoy a special screening followed by a heart-to-heart Q&A, hosted by none other than the fabulous Anna Whitehouse — aka Mother Pukka.
Janette, as honest and radiant as ever, shared:
“It was so important to me to open the conversation that everyone’s parenthood experience is different. I wanted to still have my career while also doing the best job in the world, being a mother. This was harder than I could ever have imagined, especially with our families thousands of miles away too. When I started to open up on how I felt and what was going on in our crazy lives, I was so moved by the response and also found it so eye-opening to know other people’s journeys too. I am extremely thankful I have a husband in Aljaž who wants to be my equal in every way.”
Aljaž, never missing a beat, added:
“I adore my wife, she’s an incredible mother, my best friend and a talented performer, dancer, presenter and more. I always knew she wanted to be a working mum, and I wanted to do all I could to support that, even if it meant taking a step back from Strictly and being a stay-at-home dad for a bit. If by talking more about this I can make other dads feel that this is something that should be celebrated and not be ashamed of, or made to feel less manly about, then I want to talk about it more and more.”
Host Anna Whitehouse is equally excited to join them on stage:
“I’m thrilled to be hosting Janette and Aljaž’s wonderful short film screening event. I really admire how they juggle their work lives, all the while being wonderful parents to the gorgeous Lyra. I can’t wait to ask them some questions, and hear all about their parenting journey.”
Dancing Through Change isn’t just a film; it’s a celebration of love, resilience, and rewriting the rulebook of modern parenting. For Janette and Aljaž, it’s about showing that there’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach to family life — and that’s a message we could all use a little more of.
