Ellis J Barraclough Shines with New Single ‘Patience’.
There’s something effortlessly magnetic about Ellis J Barraclough — a wide-eyed, wildly talented 19-year-old singer-songwriter from Hull who radiates both humility and star potential. With his endearing charm and guitar in hand, Ellis is making waves for all the right reasons, most recently with his warm, emotionally honest new single ‘Patience.’
Ellis may be young, but his music carries the weight of someone who’s lived a few lives. On ‘Patience’, he blends road trip-ready melodies with a voice that feels like a comforting check-in from an old friend. You’ll hear hints of Fleetwood Mac harmonies, a dash of Memphis soul, and the rustic ache of Wilco-style alt-country — all wrapped up in Ellis’s fresh, modern perspective.
“It’s about those moments where you get a little bit into your own head,” Ellis says. “You have to tell yourself: calm down, be patient, and things will work out… those thoughts are just paranoia. I think everyone has a bit of that anxiety at times.”
It’s that emotional honesty that makes his music feel timeless.
Ellis’s roots run deep. Music was practically a family heirloom — from his gigging grandfather to an uncle who nearly broke into the UK indie scene in the early 2000s. His own journey started at age seven with a guitar and grew through bands spanning alt-metal to reggae. But he always circled back to the kind of heartfelt songwriting he’s now making his signature.
He’s already caught attention from BBC Introducing, BBC Radio London, and national radio — not to mention supporting two of his musical heroes, Simon Fowler and Oscar Harrison from Ocean Colour Scene, on a nationwide tour.
And if that wasn’t enough? He’s launching a brand-new five-piece band, The Sunscreen, and headlining at Hull Social on May 22nd. It’s clear: with songs like Patience, Ellis isn’t just playing the game — he’s ready to level up.
