Only The Poets return with their new single Guess She’s Cool, out now on all streaming platforms. The track, written with Bill Maybury and Luke Fitton and produced by DanDlion, Marcus Yates, and Clem Cherry, captures a quieter moment from the band — a late-night reflection shaped by restraint and detail.
First performed during their sold-out European tour, Guess She’s Cool quickly became a fan favourite. The lyric “I guess she’s cool, but she’ll never be you” sits at the centre of the track, reflecting on emotional distance and the unfinished business that can linger after a breakup. Backed by atmospheric production and a pared-down arrangement, the song marks a shift in tone, adding new depth to the band’s catalogue.
Following their biggest year to date — with over 25,000 tickets sold and sold-out US shows in New York, Los Angeles and Boston — Only The Poets continue to build on their grassroots beginnings. Formed in Reading, the four-piece includes frontman Tommy Longhurst, bassist Andy “Roo” Burge, guitarist Clem Cherry and drummer Marcus Yates. Known for their emotional songwriting and high-energy live shows, they have steadily built a devoted audience through word-of-mouth and consistent touring.
The band will now play a short run of shows at independent venues, including two free performances at Reading’s Purple Turtle and Banbury’s Also Known As (AKA). These underplay dates are designed to highlight the role grassroots spaces have played in their career and the challenges those venues currently face.
In a statement, the band said: “Grassroots venues like AKA and the Purple Turtle were where we saw our first bands. They gave us the belief that we could be part of something bigger. Right now, too many of these spaces are at risk. Rising pressures and lack of support are forcing them to close. When that happens, it’s not just gigs we’re losing — it’s culture and opportunity.”
