Cameron Hayes has released her latest single Who Was I To Want You?, continuing her solo run following the recent release of Lover, Please Stay. The new track sees Cameron explore themes of emotional closure and self-preservation, pairing personal lyrics with a sharp, drum and bass-driven production.

Known for her work with artists including Wilkinson, Dimension, Sub Focus and Notion, Cameron has become a familiar voice within the genre — now shifting focus to her own story through a string of solo releases.

The new single reflects on the process of moving on from a toxic relationship. Built around a pulsing instrumental and grounded in Cameron’s vocal delivery, the track strikes a balance between introspection and energy, maintaining a strong connection to the dancefloor while exploring heavier emotional territory.

“‘Who Was I To Want You’ is about a relationship coming to an end, with the realisation that it was toxic and unhealthy from the start. You start to see that the feelings were never truly reciprocated, but you had rose tinted glasses on and couldn’t see quite how bad it was.”

The song continues Cameron’s approach to songwriting, marked by lyrical detail and clear storytelling. Across her solo work, she blends electronic production with vocal-led arrangements that highlight both vulnerability and resilience.
