The Script have released their latest single, The Crowd Was Singing Wonderwall, offering another taste of what’s to come from their upcoming album, The User’s Guide To Being Human, which arrives on 14 August.

Following the release of lead single Man In The Arena, the band’s newest track leans into the power of shared memories, exploring how music can reconnect people even after years apart.

Inspired by the sense of togetherness surrounding Oasis’ reunion shows, The Crowd Was Singing Wonderwall tells the story of old friends unexpectedly crossing paths decades after drifting apart. Blending soaring choruses with an indie-rock edge, it’s the kind of anthem The Script have built their career on—one that feels just as at home blasting through headphones as it does echoing around a packed arena.

The new single continues the journey towards The User’s Guide To Being Human, an album that reunites frontman Danny O’Donoghue with long-time collaborators Andrew Frampton, Steve Kipner and Jimbo Barry, the team behind some of the band’s biggest hits including Hall Of Fame, Breakeven and The Man Who Can’t Be Moved.

Danny O’Donoghue says, “I’m a huge Oasis fan. Always have been. But I don’t think Liam and Noel knew the full impact of what they were doing when they got back together. Because a lot of their fanbase, they’re lads, middle-aged guys, and a lot of them have a similar scenario where they’re not talking to a brother or a friend, and they’re trying to be a man’s man about it.

The Gallaghers reuniting put into the zeitgeist the idea that forgiveness is cool again. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up when I saw them walking out with their hands together. If two of the most notorious people for being at loggerheads can overcome their differences, anything’s possible!”

While the album looks ahead to a new chapter, it also feels rooted in everything that’s made The Script such a lasting presence over the past two decades. Across multiple number one albums, billions of streams and sold-out tours, the band have built a reputation for writing songs that connect through honest storytelling and huge, memorable choruses.

Fans won’t have to wait long to hear the new material live. The Script are currently performing across the UK and Ireland as special guests on Take That’s stadium tour before joining Luke Combs for a series of outdoor shows, including a date at Slane Castle. They’ll then embark on their own headline arena tour across the UK, Ireland and Europe later this year.

If Man In The Arena hinted at the direction of this new era, The Crowd Was Singing Wonderwall builds on it with a reminder of what The Script have always done best: writing songs that bring people together. As anticipation builds for The User’s Guide To Being Human, the band’s latest release suggests there’s still plenty more to say—and plenty more anthems to sing along to.
