Layton Williams did his first preview show for his upcoming Layton Live shows at The Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays.
And being from Bury it was definitely a coming home show for the Olivier winning theatre star.
He was joined by Idriss Kargbo, Ella Keen and Jenna Bonner for a show that was full of music, laughs and stories that gave the audience a glimpse it Laytons career so far. And what was lovely was he very candid and didn’t shy away from the not so great bits, being fired from an early theatre contract and being expelled from a prestigious drama school as a teen.
There were nods to many of the musicals he’s been in as well as his time on Strictly Come Dancing. For the audience it was a chance to really get to know Layton and as a preview show ahead of a larger tour next year, it was interesting to see where he is going with the show.
Based off what I saw last night Layton has created something very special and it will be interesting to see him develop it more for a bigger stage. One thing is for sure anyone going to the tour next year are going to have a fun evening filled with laughs, dance and some good old musical classics.
