Ella Langley’s Choosin’ Texas was already having a pretty incredible year. Now it’s officially made history.
The track has spent an astonishing 23 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, making it the longest-running No.1 single in the chart’s history.
And its success definitely isn’t limited to the US.
Earlier this month, Choosin’ Texas reached No.1 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the first country song to take the top spot in more than 20 years. It has since passed 740,000 UK sales and also holds the record for the longest-running No.1 on UK country radio.
Not bad for a song that has seemingly been impossible to escape for much of 2026.
Written by Ella alongside Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor, Choosin’ Texas has now racked up more than 1.6 billion streams around the world.
Then there’s TikTok, where videos featuring the track have generated more than 2.8 billion views and Choosin’ Texas has become a phrase in its own right.
It has even reached The Tonight Show, with Jimmy Fallon and Matthew McConaughey joining The Last Bison for a bluegrass version of the song.
The records have continued elsewhere too. Choosin’ Texas is now the longest-running No.1 by a female artist in Canada and by a country artist in Australia, while Ella became the first solo female country artist to reach No.1 on the Netherlands Airplay chart.
The song’s music video has been having quite the run of its own.
Co-directed by Ella alongside Wales Toney and Caylee Robillard, the video follows the song’s complicated love story through hometown ties and the difficulty of choosing between what you know and what might be waiting elsewhere. It’s now been watched more than 86 million times.
Choosin’ Texas has also picked up two Academy of Country Music Awards and an American Music Award, with nominations at both the Country Music Association Awards and MTV Video Music Awards still to come.
But even among all those numbers, that 23-week run stands out.
Breaking the all-time Billboard Hot 100 record is huge in itself. Doing it with a country song that’s simultaneously gone to No.1 here in the UK makes Choosin’ Texas one of those genuinely enormous crossover moments.
