The Script are getting ready to head back out on tour, and they may have just found their new opening song.
The band have released Scars Align, the latest track from The User’s Guide To Being Human, and Danny O’Donoghue is already looking forward to getting it on stage.
“Scars Align could be a show opener, I can’t wait to perform that live,” he says. “I just feel like it’s gonna be huge.”
Considering The Script start a massive arena tour in Dublin next month, we’ll soon find out.
The song was written by Danny in California alongside Andrew Frampton, Steve Kipner and Jimbo Barry, who between them have previously worked on some of the band’s biggest songs including Breakeven, The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, Hall of Fame, Superheroes and The Last Time.
This time, Danny took inspiration from his relationship with his wife, writing about the everyday moments that come with sharing your life with someone.
There’s also a quiet nod to Mark Sheehan in the title. Scars Align plays with words in the way Mark often did when writing, giving the song another connection to The Script’s history.
“You can imagine how elated we all felt after finishing that song: ‘We’re onto something here!’” Danny says. “It feels like our Beautiful Day.”
The single follows another No.1 in Ireland for The Script, with The User’s Guide To Being Human becoming their ninth consecutive album to top the chart there – a record for an Irish act. It also reached No.3 in the UK, while two tracks from the album have landed on BBC Radio 2’s A-list.
Following their recent Radio 2 In The Park set, The Script will begin their arena tour with two nights at Dublin’s 3Arena on 30 and 31 October.
They’ll then head around the UK throughout November, playing Belfast, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Sheffield, Bournemouth, Cardiff, Liverpool and London’s O2, before continuing into Europe.
And they’re not spending the whole winter in arenas.
December’s Irish Pub Sessions will see the band play some of their smallest shows in years, including three gigs in a single day at Dublin’s The Grand Social, followed by dates in Preston, Kingston and Brighton.
There’s also a performance at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 6 December, before the tour heads to the Philippines, Australia, Singapore and Indonesia in 2027.
