Twenty-three years ago today Steps officially became a band. Claire Richards, Faye Tozer and Lee Latchford Evans joined Ian ‘H’ Watkins and Lisa Scott Lee and Steps was born. We thought we’d take a trip down memory lane to celebrate the anniversary and take a look at all the music videos they’ve released so far.
5678
The bands first single was 5678 with its now-iconic dance routine. ” It’s time to begin…so count me in…”
Last Thing on my Mind
This was their second release and the first UK top 10 hits.
One For Sorrow
One For Sorrow scored the band their first top 3 hit in the UK when it went to number 2 on the charts.
Heartbeat
No, we really don’t get this video either….. But it’s a lovely song.
Tragedy
Who can forget the iconic dance routine that gets everyone on the dancefloor at weddings and parties? The video is particularly memorable as it features all the band’s families and friends.
Better Best Forgotten
The blue outfits were very 90’s.
Love’s Got a Hold on my Heart
Another very easy to remember dance routine.
After the Love has Gone
The dance routine in this one is really cool and Claire’s vocals in this are amazing.
Say You’ll Be Mine
The movie inspired spoof video for the track never fails to make us smile.
Better the Devil you Know
All we have to say is devil horns….!
Deeper Shade of Blue
Another iconic dance routine and one of their most memorable videos. The costumes in this one are some of their best.
When I Said Goodbye
A beautiful and emotional ballad, with Claire and H taking lead vocals, accompanied by a gorgeous black and white video, shot on location in Italy. Also, Claire’s top in this is literally a piece of fabric sewed on one side and looped through a belt hole on her trousers.
Summer of Love
We love the Summer of Love video, with it’s a Westside Story vibe and the brilliant costumes.
Stomp
“Thank God for the Weekend”, another classic Steps song that gets everyone up and dancing.
It’s the Way you Make me Feel
The costumes in this are amazing and what makes them even more special is the band got to design them themselves.
Here and Now/ You’ll Be Sorry
The videos both songs follow on from each other which is pretty cool. We have no shame in saying we love all the ladies tops in the Here and Now video and would wear them now.
Chain Reaction
The band do their own take on Greys Anatomy/ER in this video and play doctors and nurses. If we remember correctly the storyline was supposed to be that H, as the patient was in love with one of the ladies characters…. it was a really fun video.
Words are not Enough
A computer-animated masterpiece.
I Know Him so Well
Beautiful is all we have to say for this one.
Light Up The World
This was the first taste of Steps 2.0 and we loved it.
Scared of the Dark
The band truly cemented their return to the charts with this catchy track and brilliant video.
Story of a Heart
We love the trip down memory lane the band took with this video, especially them looking at old props and costumes they’d used.
Neon Blue
The treatment for the video was written by Lee, which makes it a bit more special, but it’s a classic Steps track.
Dancing with a Broken Heart
The costumes and general feel of this video gives us Deeper Shade of Blue vibes and we love it!
