Anne Twist recently posted on her instagram some lovely photos of pottery she had made herself at a local pottery studio, Cheshire Clay Studio which does a variety of different classes and experiences for all abilities.
Within the caption Anne stated how she found playing with clay to create pottery, so relaxing. In recent years pottery making classes have become hugely again. They are hugely therapeutic and relaxing as Anne and many others have discovered. As a hobby it has many positive benefits both for your physical and mental health.
While spinning clay, your mind and body and body are one , completely in tune with your creative and artistic ideals. This thoughtful, artistic activity can open up the mind and relieve you of outside worries.
Pottery allows you an outlet to express yourself and explore many different forms of creativity. It also helps to improve your focus as you become absorbed in the process and outside influences do not affect the work you are creating, enabling you to fully relax and open your mind. A skill which can be used in all areas of your life.
The art of pottery making is a hobby which helps you with your mental health. It provides an outlet for grief, and can help you with self-identification, self-expression, bolstering confidence and self-esteem.
It also allows people to develop their social skills in a stress free and safe environment. As classes are usually a very relaxed and casual vibe which makes it easier for individuals with social anxiety to take the time to get comfortable in the environment and not feel overwhelmed.
We did a taster class a few years ago at Wedgwood and really enjoyed the experience . It was very relaxing. You also get to learn a new skill and get to see your personal development with the pieces you create.
