Review: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live in London

Home » Review: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live in London

The beloved Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon franchise took to the London stage with The Super Live, a visually stunning and high-energy adaptation that thrilled longtime fans. However, while the production excelled in spectacle and nostalgia, it also suffered from rushed pacing, limited storytelling, and a lack of emotional depth—which may leave newcomers feeling lost.

One of the production’s greatest strengths was its mesmerizing visuals and choreography. The bright LED backgrounds, dynamic lighting effects, and beautifully crafted costumes made every scene feel like a living anime episode. The soundtrack brought Sailor Moon’s world to life, and the cast delivered strong dance-driven performances that captured the essence of their characters.

While the show followed the familiar Sailor Moon storyline, it relied heavily on visuals and music rather than dialogue or character development. This made it difficult for those unfamiliar with the series to fully grasp the plot.

The performance felt more like a highlights reel than a fully realized stage production. Major plot points and character moments were skimmed over, sacrificing emotional impact for speed.
While the fight sequences were exciting, they became somewhat repetitive, lacking variety in execution. More creative combat elements could have elevated these moments.
Unlike traditional musicals, The Super Live was more of a dance-driven performance with minimal dialogue, which made it harder for the audience to connect emotionally with the characters.

While Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live delivered a dazzling visual experience that hardcore fans will appreciate, If you love Sailor Moon and enjoy fast-paced, visually rich performances, this is still an exciting spectacle. However, for those looking for a well-rounded theatrical adaptation with deeper storytelling, it may fall a bit short.

A visually spectacular tribute to Sailor Moon, but one that prioritizes flash over substance. Best enjoyed by die-hard fans rather than casual theatergoers.
