Ben Barnes—yes, that Ben Barnes, the actor from Westworld, The Punisher, and The Chronicles of Narnia—is reminding the world that his talents go way beyond the screen. The singer-songwriter and actor just released a stunning new music video for his single “One Minute More”, a soul-stirring duet with Chicago-born indie darling Monica Martin.
“One Minute More” is an emotional gut-punch in the gentlest way. It’s a song about longing, the ache of goodbye, and that desperate wish for just one more moment with someone you love. “It’s about letting go,” Ben explains. “It’s that intense pang of goodbye and the ache for one more impossible minute. I heard Monica Martin’s ‘Go Easy, Kid’ and knew hers was the magical, vulnerable voice I needed for this song.”
And magical it is. Monica’s haunting vocals blend beautifully with Ben’s rich, emotive tone, making “One Minute More” feel like a modern-day ballad straight from the heart.
The track is featured on Ben’s debut album ‘Where The Light Gets In’, released via Kartel Music Group—a record that highlights his hopeful spirit and life-won wisdom. “I hope the album brings clarity when life feels sombre, empowers you in moments of pain or vulnerability, and reminds you that you’re lovable—even when the world says otherwise,” Ben shares.
Though Barnes is best known for his on-screen roles, music has always been a lifelong passion. He’s been writing songs and collaborating with musicians since he was 19, but it wasn’t until 2021 that he made his music dreams a reality with his debut EP, ‘Songs for You’. Now, with ‘Where The Light Gets In’, Ben takes it to the next level—recording at Santa Monica’s Apogee Studios with a stellar lineup, including James Valentine and Sam Farrar of Maroon 5, who also co-produced the record alongside Ben’s drummer and manager, Paul Hamilton.
The album dives deep into the many layers of human connection—covering everything from the electric beginnings of love to the messy ends, with all the tension, passion, nostalgia, and heartbreak in between. Inspired by the soul and pop music Ben grew up loving, it’s a vulnerable, honest reflection on how our histories shape us, scars and all.
“It’s about how even when we feel broken, we can mend. We can transform. The cracks—those are where the light gets in,” Ben reflects, quoting the Leonard Cohen-inspired line that gives the album its title.
With “One Minute More”, Ben Barnes has given us a raw, emotional anthem that lingers long after the last note fades. And if this is any indication of what’s next, we’re all in for a beautiful ride.
