Brighton’s rising indie-pop gem Frances Mistry is not here to stay quiet — she’s here to sing about it. Her latest single, “Something Has to Give,” just dropped, and trust us, it’s the musical equivalent of sipping chamomile tea while screaming into the void.
With soft, mellow vocals that totally wrap you up like your favorite oversized hoodie, Frances delivers a message that couldn’t feel more urgent. The lyrics? Calling out political apathy and the world’s ongoing mess in the most poetic, spine-tingling way.
Frances herself puts it best:
“I wrote this song when I was feeling pretty disheartened with what was happening in the world… There’s a lack of left-wing presence within our political system right now and there needs to be change. ‘Something has to give’ is just a phrase I hear people repeating… and yes, something must have to give soon. We can’t keep going on like this.”
But here’s the thing — while “Something Has to Give” hits hard with its message, it’s not all doom and gloom. It’s melodic, hypnotic, and genuinely beautiful — the kind of track you’ll want on repeat while staring out the bus window, contemplating the state of the world and your crush not texting back.
Frances Mistry has been making big moves, kicking off the year with her dreamy single “New Hands to Hold,” already earning her spot on the lineup for The Great Escape Festival this May (huge!). She’s also been shortlisted for Truck Festival — we absolutely love to see it — and with a brand-new EP set to drop this spring, she’s cementing herself as one of the most exciting and authentic voices rising in the UK indie-pop scene.
In a world where so much feels out of control, Frances is that artist reminding us to care, reflect, and maybe — just maybe — raise our voices too.
