Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?: Amy Macdonald Announces New Album

Home » Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?: Amy Macdonald Announces New Album

Amy Macdonald has always had a gift — the ability to take life’s highs and lows and turn them into uplifting, relatable anthems. Now, with her upcoming sixth album, Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?, she’s proving once again why she remains one of the UK’s most cherished voices.

Over the years, Amy’s honest songwriting and distinctive sound have earned her five Top 5 albums across Europe (including a UK #1 and two #1s in Germany), over 12 million album sales, 12 international Platinum certifications, and more than a billion streams. On stage, she’s equally magnetic — having played to over 5 million fans across the globe, she’s a live powerhouse whose connection with audiences is undeniable.

Her new record, Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For? set for release on July 11th via Infectious, builds on everything she’s known for: emotional storytelling, big choruses, and an unmistakable sense of hope. The lead single — also the album’s title track — sets the tone with its pulsating beat and cathartic energy. It’s a rallying cry that captures the magic of a live show and the freedom that comes from pouring everything into a song.

Amy shares that the track was inspired by seeing footage of The Sphere in Las Vegas — a futuristic live music venue that reminded her of the sheer power of gigs as unforgettable experiences. “It really made me think about how music is for me,” she says. “Gigs have always been the most important part.”

But there’s more to Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For? than just electrifying sound. Across the tracklist, Amy dives into themes of survival, self-worth, and transformation — whether she’s writing about toxic relationships, social pressures, or learning to move forward with resilience and grace. The result is a bold, emotionally charged collection that feels both deeply personal and widely resonant.

Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?’ tracklist:

  1. ‘Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?’
  2. ‘Trapped’
  3. ‘Can You Hear Me?’
  4. ‘I’m Done (Games That You Play)’
  5. ‘The Hope’
  6. ‘Forward’
  7. ‘We Survive’
  8. ‘One More Shot’
  9. ‘Physical’
  10. ‘It’s All So Long Ago’

“I feel very lucky to be in the place I am now,” Amy says. “There’s a realness in me, something raw – honestly I’m winging it most of the time.”

She’s worked with top-tier talent to bring the album to life, including Nicolas Rebscher (AURORA, Louis Tomlinson) and Grammy-winning producer Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys). The production is crisp, cinematic, and made to be heard loud — whether through headphones or in a packed stadium.

To celebrate the release, Amy has announced an extensive UK and European tour, including a major homecoming show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro and festival appearances at Isle of Wight and Neighbourhood Weekender. It’s a fitting return for an artist who has always found her truest voice on stage.
