Calum Hood, best known as the bassist of 5 Seconds of Summer, continues carving out his solo path with the release of his new single ‘Call Me When You Know Better’. The track arrives ahead of his debut solo album ORDER chaos ORDER, due out June 13 via Island EMI.

More than just a single, ‘Call Me When You Know Better’ played a pivotal role in shaping the album’s sound. It became the sonic blueprint for the record, blending digital textures with organic instrumentation to reflect the inner noise of conflicting thoughts and emotions. As Calum puts it, the song is “a love letter in the form of an apology,” touching on themes of regret, self-doubt, and emotional complexity.

The single follows Don’t Forget You Love Me’, which was released in March and served as the emotional entry point to the album. Together, the songs hint at a deeply personal project that’s less about polished pop hooks and more about raw honesty and introspective storytelling.

After 14 years in the spotlight with 5SOS, ORDER chaos ORDER marks Calum’s first true solo statement. Crafted primarily with Jackson Phillips (Day Wave), and featuring contributions from David Burris and TMS, the album explores the vulnerability of looking inward. It’s an indie-leaning project with layered melodies and thoughtful lyrics, offering a quiet intensity that unfolds with each listen.

Reflecting on the project, Calum shares, “There are things I’ve never been able to sing about in the band—my upbringing, my family, the places life has taken me. This album is about laying those things to rest and allowing listeners to connect in their own way.”

ORDER chaos ORDER promises to be a striking debut—personal, reflective, and a bold step forward for an artist stepping out on his own terms.

ORDER chaos ORDER will be released on June 13th and is available to pre-order here. ‘Call Me When You Know Better’ is out now and available here
