Plain Jane Wanted is the first book in the English Channel series by Rose Amberly.

Job Advert – Wanted: an unattractive woman with lots of patience and a sense of humour. What lunatic replies to an ad like this? Probably someone having the worst day of her young life.
It’s the perfect job for heartbroken Millie, who just lost everything, including her confidence. She desperately needs a new start.
With nothing but a little courage, she sails to La Canette, a tiny rustic island in the English Channel. Her new boss is impossibly grumpy and doesn’t allow cars or street lights on his island and he keeps trying to fire her.

Despite all this, the beautiful little island full of unique wild flowers soon awakens Millie’s long-lost dreams of a wild-herb café by the sea. She also finds supportive loving friends and laughter. Gradually, she blossoms into the beautiful, confident woman she is meant to be.

The only problem is her boss’ son. George might be handsome, rich and eligible but a painful memory from his past makes it impossible to trust.

He might be well out of her league, but winning his heart might turn out to be the easy part.
How can she allow herself to fall for him if it risks losing her newly discovered confidence and breaking her heart all over again?

Plain Jane Wanted, the delightful first novel in the English Channel series by Rose Amberly, is a charming, heartfelt escape to a world of wildflowers, second chances, and slow-burning romance. With a quirky premise and an endearing protagonist, this book is a breath of fresh, salty sea air—and a lovely reminder that sometimes, starting over can lead us exactly where we’re meant to be.

Millie is an incredibly relatable heroine. She doesn’t arrive on the island brimming with confidence or ambition; she’s been knocked down, and she’s still figuring out how to get back up. Watching her rediscover her spark, her dreams, and her self-worth is genuinely uplifting.

The romance element adds just the right amount of tension and heart. George, the boss’s son, is everything a romantic hero should be—handsome, emotionally guarded, and carrying just enough mystery to keep the reader turning the pages.

An absolute gem of a read—cosy, heartfelt, and impossible not to root for.
