GRAMMY-winning songwriter and musician Mitch Rowland has announced his second full-length album, Whistling Pie, due out 12 September via Erskine Records/Giant Music. The album follows his 2023 solo debut Come June, which was met with critical acclaim and introduced Mitch as a quietly powerful voice in contemporary folk and guitar-led songwriting.

Mitch, known for his longstanding collaboration with Harry Styles, has spent the last year performing sold-out shows across the United States and beyond, before settling with his family in the English countryside. That relocation has had a clear influence on the new record, which was written and recorded closer to home, with an emphasis on the quieter rhythms of domestic life.

Whistling Pie was made in collaboration with producer Rob Schnapf — who also worked on Come June — and recorded at the storied Rockfield Studios in Monmouthshire, Wales. Known for hosting the likes of Queen, Coldplay and Oasis, Rockfield offered a fittingly historic setting for Mitch’s reflective songwriting process.

The album’s first single, “Really Ready”, is out now and gives a glimpse into what’s to come. The track was first captured as a rough demo back in 2017 and rediscovered by Mitch while clearing out old files on his phone. Now reworked and fully realised, it stands as the centrepiece of the new record — melodic, hopeful, and rooted in the gentle guitar work that has become Mitch’s signature.

Speaking about the process behind Whistling Pie, Mitch has described how family life, and especially fatherhood, shifted his relationship with songwriting. Time became tighter, but the urge to write became sharper. With less room for procrastination, songs began to emerge from everyday moments — a walk through the garden, a car journey, or the brief pause between tour dates.

“Everyone has their whole life to make their first record. While I was making my second, it felt like time was slipping away.”  “Being a dad makes me feel like the time is now.”

Musically, the album draws inspiration from the likes of JJ Cale, whose relaxed, unpolished approach offered a guide for how Mitch might balance studio craft with the spontaneous edges of home recording. Several demos began in his father-in-law’s studio — the same space where his wife once learnt to play the drums.

Whistling Pie promises to build on the grounded charm of Mitch’s debut, while offering a portrait of a life in motion — balancing music, family, and the quiet pull of ordinary days.
