Rising pop artist Sofia Camara has released her new single Parking Lot, a ballad that marks a return to the emotional songwriting that first brought her attention. Built around piano, strings and a slow-building arrangement, the track was co-written and produced by Mike Wise, Nathan Ferraro, and Lowell — the same team behind Sofia’s breakout single Who Do I Call Now? (Hellbent) and her recent radio track Girls Like You.
Parking Lot reflects on the quiet intensity of young heartbreak, combining stripped-down verses with a full-band crescendo. It continues Sofia’s collaboration with Wise, Ferraro, and Lowell, who also worked on Girls Like You, which earned support from BBC Radio 1’s Future Pop and was described by presenter Jodie Bryant as “just the perfect pop song.”
’Parking Lot’ came from one of those moments where grief and anger blur together, and you can’t tell if you’re mad at someone or just heartbroken that they’re gone,” says Sofia Camara about the new release. “It’s about the mental gymnastics we do to protect ourselves – making someone the villain just so it’s easier to let go. This song is me owning the ugly parts of healing, the tears cried in cars, the things we say that we don’t mean, and the threads of hope we hold onto when we know something’s over. It’s messy, it’s real, it’s honest, and I think a lot of people will see a piece of themselves in this song.”
The release comes ahead of a milestone weekend for Sofia, with two major festival performances lined up — the main stage at Osheaga in Montréal on Saturday, followed by the BMI Stage at Lollapalooza in Chicago on Sunday.
Earlier this summer, Sofia released two Spotify Singles: an acoustic version of Girls Like You and a cover of Gracie Abrams’ That’s So True. The exclusive drop followed her steady rise on the platform, where she now has more than two million monthly listeners.
