The Shield of Mercia is a vivid and immersive read that makes you feel as though you are truly there. It’s packed full of action and has a fair bit of humour sprinkled throughout.
You can really tell that the author is fascinated by this time period as this, like all their books, is meticulously researched.
If you enjoy historical fiction, then this is a book you need to read, as are MJ Porter’s books in general.
