Rebecca Yarros has officially unveiled the next book set in her hugely popular The Empyrean universe.
Announced on Conscription Day, a date that holds special significance for readers of Fourth Wing, the new book is titled Threshing Day and will be released on 29 September 2026.
Rather than continuing Violet and Xaden’s story, Threshing Day is a companion collection featuring 13 stories centred around one of the most important days in the Empyrean world. The book will explore the experiences of a number of familiar characters during Threshing Day, with the dragons themselves also playing a role in the collection.
Rebecca also revealed that the deluxe edition will feature illustrations by fantasy artist Joe Requeza, while confirming that Xaden’s story will later be made available through her website.
One point Rebecca was keen to make clear is that Threshing Day is not Book Four in the main Empyrean series. Although it will be the fourth published title set in the world of Fourth Wing, it sits alongside the main novels rather than continuing the story after the dramatic ending of Onyx Storm.
The announcement follows weeks of anticipation from readers, with many wondering what Rebecca had planned for this year’s Conscription Day. While speculation ranged from Book Four news to updates on the upcoming television adaptation, the reveal instead offers fans the chance to explore more of the world and characters that have made the series such a phenomenon.
For readers eager to return to Basgiath before the next full novel arrives, Threshing Day looks set to offer exactly that—a deeper look into the people, dragons and moments that helped shape the Empyrean universe.
