The Lathums Return With First New Music in Over a Year

The Lathums have released their new single, Vice Versa, marking their first new music in more than 12 months.

The track follows 2025’s standalone release Cobblestones and arrives after a quieter period for the band, who have spent the past year focusing on carefully selected live performances, including their first shows in Australia and the Far East.

Built around thoughtful lyrics and the band’s signature indie sound, Vice Versa explores themes of vulnerability and self-belief. The accompanying music video was once again created with long-time collaborator James Slater, continuing a creative partnership that has helped shape the band’s visual identity over recent years.

Frontman Alex Moore wrote the song during sessions with Grammy-nominated songwriter Ian Archer, whose previous collaborators include Liam Gallagher, Jake Bugg and Tom Smith. The experience gave Moore the opportunity to develop ideas outside the band’s usual writing process before bringing the finished song back to the rest of the group.

“‘Vice Versa’ was written from a feeling of not fully belonging in the world we’ve built around ourselves,” explains Alex. “It came from that experience of having everything you need to survive, yet still feeling hungry for meaning, connection, and peace. The song sits between connection and alienation, between needing people deeply and fearing what we carry inside ourselves.

“Writing it with Ian down in Brighton pushed me into a much more vulnerable place creatively, and what started as a songwriting session very quickly became more like a therapy session. We spoke a lot about identity, dependence, fear and navigating life, and it ended up being probably the most open, honest and raw writing experience I’ve had in my career so far.”

The release follows the success of Matter Does Not Define, the band’s third album, which became another UK Top Five record and continued the momentum built by their two previous chart-topping albums.

With Vice Versa now out in the world, The Lathums are preparing for a busy summer of live performances. Their remaining 2026 dates include a support slot with Richard Ashcroft at Alexandra Palace Park before festival appearances throughout the season.

Away from music, the band continue their work with the Chance To See Fund, a partnership with Curious Minds that helps improve young people’s access to arts and cultural experiences.

After more than a year without new material, Vice Versa feels like a welcome return—and perhaps the first sign of what’s next for one of the UK’s most consistent indie bands.

With new music understandably starting rumours amongst fans of more to come, with touring plans potentially set to follow, all of The Lathums’ currently confirmed live dates for the remainder of this year are as follows:
