Ride or Die is a novel by Alexi Cross, also known as the incredible author Georgia Bowers.
Laila has just been offered the opportunity of a lifetime – a year-long work experience placement with F1s most prolific reporter. It’s the chance of a lifetime and Laila is determined to impress. But during the first race in Bahrain, a terrible crash plunges Laila straight into the action. Rumours start to circulate that there is sabotage at play and Laila makes it her mission to uncover the truth before her apprenticeship ends.
But as she gets closer to unmasking the culprit, she risks her own life and position in the paddock. And will she get to the truth before it’s too late?
I’m not on F1 fan but I LOVED this book. Laila was such a brilliant and likeable character. As a journalist intern on the F1 circuit I felt like I was right there with her experiencing the flights, the circuits, events and endless hotel rooms. And by the end of it I also felt I knew a lot more about F1 which was cool. I enjoy books that make you learn things even if you don’t realise it at the time. Also as someone who knew very little about F1 I never felt while reading that I was at a disadvantage, which is a clear sign of the writers talent in world building and being able to explain things clearly without it feeling like an info dump.
Sam gave me the creeps from the start he reminded of some journalists I met early on when I started out in entertainment journalism so I really related to Laila’s experience as his intern.
Honestly just an incredible read!
