Secrets in the Dark is the latest novel from USA Today bestselling author Darcy Coates. It is part of her new Black Winter Series.
Winterbourne Hall is not safe. Clare and Dorran scramble to secure the ancient building in an effort to protect themselves from the ravenous hollow ones, but that isn’t their only concern.
Somewhere far away, Beth is alive, but she’s trapped, and her oxygen is running out. Hundreds of kilometres separate Clare from her sister. The land between them is infested with monsters, and the roads are a maze of dead ends. She knows she can’t survive the trip by herself.
But even with Dorran at her side, can she truly hope to face the winter stillness…and make it to her desperate sister before it’s too late?
Secrets in the Dark continues the story of Clare and Dorran, It’s a compelling and breathtaking read. Darcy Coates knows how to write and sustain a dystopian era series. Darcy has a gift for keeping the reader turning the pages, leaving them breathless with twist after twist.
Sometimes with second books, the story falls a bit flat. Definitely not the case in a Darcy Coates novel. It picks up the pace and remains a story that is so absorbing and impossible to put down.
There are enough references to the previous book Voices in the Snow that you can read Secrets in the Dark and still be swept away and enjoy reading it.
We cannot wait to read the next book in the series Whispers in the Mist.
