July Jones has released her latest track “Butterfly” featuring Girli and Suzi Wu and it’s one that we cannot help but have on repeat.
Normally every song has a scale, but the chorus of ‘Butterflies’ isn’t in any scale, which is why it sounds so unusual,” July explains. “I’m really making a statement by putting out this song and the fact it features two of my favourite artists, Girli and Suzi Wu, just makes it even more powerful.” July states in a press release for the track.
Her edgy electro-pop songs combine razor-sharp hooks with forward-thinking production choices and filter-free lyrics about relationships, queerness and mental health make July a unique artist that will definitely leave a mark with her music.
Having already established herself as an in-demand and hugely talented songwriter with credits on tracks for artists including BTS, Zolita, 99 Souls, Girli and Nasty Cherry, July is now ready to put her own music in to the world and been seen as an artist, rather than a behind the scenes song writer. “I’ve worked really hard to get to this point and I think other people will find my story inspiring,” she says. “But at the same time, this is just the beginning for me. You are not going to believe what’s coming next!”
July says all her songs have a message and she intends to use her platform as an out queer artist carefully. “Being queer isn’t really accepted in Slovenia, and even in the UK we’re still fighting for our rights,” she says. “So why wouldn’t I talk about that? It’s a really big part of my story.” She also wants to improve awareness of Slovenia – a country too many people erroneously associate with Russia – and reduce the stigma faced by Eastern European people living in the UK.
