Review: Why Byron Burger needs to bring back The Big Smoke Permanently

Byron Burger is delving deep into its archives and bringing back some of its most legendary burgers from years ago, starting with The Big Smoke.

We headed to our local Byron burger in Cambridge to try it. Now normally when we go to Byron we go for one of their chicken burgers but The Big Smoke sounded delicious so we had to give it a go.

The meat feast of a burger consists of a juicy grass-fed British Beef 6oz patty, topped with slow-roasted beef, mature cheddar cheese, smoked streaky bacon, crispy tangy onions, lashings of smoky chilli BBQ mayo, pickles and a layer of chopped fresh lettuce.

We ordered it without the pickles and with a side of Haloumi fries with a Siracha dip. We were not disappointed. It was juicy and full of flavour the slow roasted beef combined with the smoky BBQ mayo and the crispy onions gave it a delicious texture, that left you yearning to take another bite.

The Big Smoke is everything you want in a burger if you are a meat eater, it’s easy to see why it’s classed a legendary burger. Even our server admitted it was one of their favourite burgers Byron has ever done. We can’t help but wonder what it would take for Byron to put it back on the menu as a permanent fixture as it’s burger perfection and one we would definitely order every time we go to Byrons.

In the coming months, Byron’s legion of loyal customers can expect the return of many much-loved classics, including the Reuben, a tangy twist on a classic burger, thanks to a layer of sauerkraut pickle relish…and one of the very first burger creations.

A new burger will return every month. For april it’s Run Rarebit Run which incorporates a layer of cheesy Welsh rarebit, and a spicy mustard sauce…

The Big Smoke costs £13.95

Sides from £3.00

Desserts from £5.99
