EVALINA has released a heart-wrenching new single about unrequited love called “Be Your Friend”
“Be Your Friend” is inspired by a true story about the confusion and self-doubt you feel after being unknowingly led on by someone over a long period of time, when you thought the friendship would bloom into something more based on the way the other person treated you, only to find out your feelings aren’t reciprocated and that you misinterpreted their interest in you.
About the track, EVALINA says, “It’s a heartbreaking feeling, although at the same time you feel like you can’t blame the other person because it may have just been the way you interpreted the vibes between you and them, they might have been truly oblivious to the vibes they were giving off (although I highly doubt it) hence the lyrics “I don’t have the right to a broken heart” and “can’t even be mad with you ‘cause you were never mine”. I think being led on is one of the worst feelings because you get used to the idea of the potential and where you see yourself with this person, and it leaves you feeling foolish for even believing in the possibility. You also feel slightly gaslit because you question whether it was all just in your head when I’m sure the other person knew what they were doing“.
“Be Your Friend“, the latest track from EVALINA’s upcoming debut EP “Fickle Heart“, co-written with Sophie Ackroyd & produced by Afterparty, proceeds the singles “Rough Patch“, “Happy You’re Happy” & “Biggest Fan“, steps away from the usual tongue & cheek lyrical style that she’s become known for & glides into a more sad, mature & vulnerable sound, embracing her raw emotions to share the pain of unrequited love in excruciating detail.
