The Lumberjills Take A Stand is the latest novel from author M W Arnold. It is the second book in The Lumberjills series.
The peace at Wipers Farm is threatened by an accidental run-in between the Lumberjills, a group of Black American Army laborers, and the men’s superiors who don’t take kindly to the girls overtures of friendship towards them.
Whilst making new friends, the Lumberjills and the villagers also make dangerous enemies who are quick to anger, taking out their outrage on the men and extending it to the girls and the townspeople as well, putting all in mortal danger. In the midst, love blooms for one of the girls, promising post-war happiness.
But only by sticking together and trusting each other, and friends old and new, to do the right thing, can the girls survive.

The Lumberjills Take A Stand is the second book in a series. But you can read it without having to have read the first one. Although reading the first one will really give you depth and more background about the women.
It’s a nice read that really lets you get to know the characters and their stories. As a series, it’s so well-crafted that the characters feel like friends by the end. The author has really captured the nuances and atypical attitudes of the time period, without letting them overshadow how strong and inspirational these women were.
