Bookshop.org has expanded beyond physical books with the launch of its brand-new audiobook platform, giving readers another way to discover their next listen while supporting independent bookshops.
The new service allows customers to buy and listen to audiobooks through Bookshop.org, with participating bookshops now able to benefit from audiobook sales for the first time. Available as a subscription priced at £12.99 per month, the platform has been designed to help independent booksellers tap into one of the fastest-growing areas of publishing.
To celebrate the launch, Bookshop.org is also offering a collection of exclusive audiobook content, available only through its platform. Listeners can enjoy conversations between authors and narrators, a new lecture from historian Max Hastings, an exclusive message from Cody Dahler and a speech from Sarah Wynn-Williams, author of Careless People.

The launch comes at a time when audiobooks continue to grow in popularity. According to figures from the Publishers Association, the UK audiobook market was worth £255 million in 2025, while research from YouGov found that almost a third of readers had listened to an audiobook over the previous year.
Bookshop.org is also looking to bring audiobooks into physical bookshops. As part of the launch, listening stations will be introduced in eight independent bookshops across the UK as part of a pilot programme, with Real Magic Books among the first to take part.
The move comes during the UK’s National Year of Reading, which celebrates storytelling in all its forms. Research from the National Literacy Trust has also highlighted the positive role audiobooks can play in encouraging reading, particularly among younger audiences.
Whether you prefer listening on your commute, while walking the dog or curled up at home, audiobooks have become part of the way many people enjoy books. With Bookshop.org now joining the growing number of platforms offering them, readers have another way to discover new stories while continuing to support independent bookshops.
