We’ve probably all known someone who comes on a little too strong at the beginning of a relationship.
Suddenly you’re their favourite person, they’re saying everything you’ve been waiting to hear and you’re imagining an entire future together. Then, just as quickly, the whole thing disappears.
That’s the experience at the heart of Roxburgh’s new single Lovebomber.
Written by Roxburgh alongside producer Angus Parkin and Rob Bryant, the upbeat indie-pop track explores the intensity of those early stages of a relationship and what happens when you realise the person making you feel so special might not have been quite as genuine as you thought.
“Lovebomber is for the people who believed the words that they were craving to hear,” Roxburgh explains. “For the people who are in or past the situation, the person that made them feel like the world was complete with them doing it together, only to pull the rug from beneath them.”
Although there’s another, considerably less complicated, reason to give it a listen.
“Or if you just like a fucking naughty sax solo, I guess you’ll like the tune.”
Fair enough.
Lovebomber marks the beginning of a new run of music from the East London singer, whose real name is Charlie Donald. His stage name comes from his middle name, Roxburgh, and also nods to his Scottish heritage.
Music isn’t his only creative outlet either.
Before releasing his own songs, Charlie worked as a videographer, and he’s now bringing those two sides of his work together. Next week, Lovebomber will receive not only an official music video but its own short film, giving him considerably more space to explore the story behind the song.
The new single follows Roxburgh’s debut EP Ceiling Mirrors, which arrived in 2025. Across six tracks, including I Don’t Wanna Know, Leave Me Alone and the more stripped-back Permanent, the EP introduced listeners to the different sides of his music.
He also made his headline debut with a sold-out hometown show at East London’s Paper Dress Vintage.
Since then, Roxburgh has spent the past few months back in the studio working on the music that will follow Lovebomber, with more live shows also being planned for later this year.
For now, though, Lovebomber is a pretty good reminder that if someone starts promising you the world five minutes after meeting you, perhaps proceed with caution.
But if there’s a naughty sax solo involved? Well, apparently that’s a different matter entirely.
