Scottish singer-songwriter Blair Davie has announced a deluxe edition of their EP You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe?, featuring three new songs, alongside the release of their latest single, Mess Like Mine.

The original EP explored love, relationships and the vulnerability that comes with letting someone into your life. Now, Blair is adding three songs that bring the story together, from leaving home and falling in love to learning how to accept yourself.

The first of those new tracks, Mess Like Mine, is out now through Giant Music.

It’s a song about allowing someone to see the parts of yourself you might normally try to hide, particularly when you’re used to keeping your guard up.

“Mess Like Mine is the follow-up to You Like Ugly, Don’t You Babe? – the moment you realise you might not be too broken to be loved,” Blair explains.

They point to the lyric, “and I look so good in a suit and tie / and I’m sorry if I led you to believe I’d be like that all of the time”, as particularly important to the EP’s overall message.

For Blair, the song is about understanding that you don’t have to present a perfect version of yourself to deserve love.

The other two additions to the deluxe edition are Don’t Look Back and I Thought About You, both of which explore different moments in the same relationship.

“Don’t Look Back is about leaving my family in Scotland to start a new life with the person all these songs are about; Mess Like Mine is about learning to be open; I Thought About You is the emotional outburst of falling in love for the first time,” Blair says.

“Put together, it’s the whole arc – breaking, opening up, and finally letting someone in.”

The original five tracks also follow that personal journey.

When You Fall In Love explores healing and finding a connection with someone, while the title track brings a bigger indie sound to the record.

So What? deals with choosing to stay in a relationship despite the reasons you might have to walk away, and You Must Be A Miracle is about appreciating someone who has supported you through difficult times.

The original EP closes with Alive Cause Of You, before the deluxe edition continues the story through its three additional tracks.

Blair has been building a following over the past few years, with their earlier EP First And Last featuring songs including Crashing The Car, Wouldn’t Be Right and Butterflies.

Their songwriting has also earned them an Ivor Novello Award nomination and Amazon Music’s UK Rising Star Award.

And they’ve been getting plenty of opportunities to share that music live.

Blair has supported James Arthur at London’s O2 and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, toured with artists including JP Cooper, Emeli Sandé and Sam Fischer, and performed at festivals such as The Great Escape, Latitude and Sziget.

This summer also saw them support Mika at Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Bandstand and join Amy Macdonald for shows across Germany.

There’s more touring to come before the end of the year, with Blair heading across Europe throughout November before returning to the UK for headline shows in London, Glasgow and Manchester.
