The Importance Of Music In Your Life

Regardless of how much or how little you listen to music, it will always have a special place in your heart and soul. Music has the power to move us in a variety of ways: it can evoke memories, inspire contemplation, soothe anxiety, elicit laughter, or trigger tears. In addition to generating a wide range of emotions, it can also help us articulate ideas we hadn’t previously considered. Here are just a few of the many reasons we need music in our lives.

Music Brings Back Memories

Even on our worst days, good memories from the past will make us smile, so when we hear a song or piece of music that has meaningful memories associated with it, it can transport us right back to where we were when we first heard it.

Maybe you had a great night out in a club, or maybe it’s the music you first danced to on your wedding day.

Perhaps there are some guitar loops that you always hum to yourself. Your parents’ favourite music, a tune that reminds you of childhood trips or family events, and many other things can all help you reminisce.

Although nobody should live in the past and we should all look to the future, it is sometimes beneficial to be able to trip back in time for a short period to relive happy times, and music allows us to do so.

Boosts Imagination

You may not be aware of it, but listening to music stimulates your creativity. When you listen to music, you will imagine the person singing, the setting they are singing about, and the motives they could have for singing that specific song. You could make up tales about what is going on, or you might simply imagine the scene in your brain because of the words or the melody and how it makes you feel.

Whatever you choose, it will be difficult to listen without letting your imagination work somehow, and it is a wonderful way to keep your mind working.

Music Is Motivating

Going for a run without music is quite different than going for a run without isn’t it? And there is a lot of research out there that shows that listening to music as you work, or simply having it playing in the background, can help you stay focused and motivated. Working or exercising in silence can lead to exhaustion quickly since the mind is focused on the task at hand. You can work longer and more efficiently if you have something to keep you from being distracted. It may seem counterintuitive, but it is true: the more you listen while working, the more energised you will feel.

It’s Enjoyable

Even if none of the above statements were true, the reality remains that we like listening to music. It’s enjoyable, pleasurable, and makes us happy. And, of course, music is always going to be there for us, no matter what we want or need from it. This is maybe the most crucial feature of all.
