Which TV and Film Streaming Services Should You Really Get?

There are so many streaming services to choose from these days, covering not just things to watch but also audio services. With so many options and some big names, it can be tough to decide which ones are really worth it. You might choose to have multiple subscriptions but if you’re trying to save money, you probably don’t want to pay for more than necessary. You especially don’t want to sign up for a service that you rarely ever use. But how are you supposed to pick which one is the best one for you?

There isn’t a definite best streaming service because everyone has different preferences. But there are some things you can consider if you want to find the best option to meet your needs.

Which Streaming Service Is Cheapest?

The first thing a lot of people will think about is price. Before you start thinking about paid services, there are some free options. Services like All4 and BBC iPlayer (free if you already have a TV licence) can be pretty handy if you’re on a budget and would rather not pay for any streaming services. There’s plenty available to watch on them, especially if you’re not that picky about watching the latest shows.

But if you’re looking at paid streaming services, prices can vary a lot. Netflix starts from £6.99 for a basic account, whereas Amazon Prime starts at just over £6.50 per month if you pay yearly and Disney Plus is a similar price. Apple TV+, however, is just £4.99 per month, Britbox costs £5.99 per month (or less for a yearly subscription) and the cost of Now TV depends on which package you choose. Of course, another thing to consider is free trials. Most services offer a trial of at least a month but some offer up to three months.

Which Platform Has the Most Content?

Another main point to consider is just how much content you’re getting for your money. It’s all very well if one service is cheaper than the others, but that might not be so great if it has much less content. According to Business Insider, Netflix has the largest catalogue. However, not all content is available on each platform in every country. It can be beneficial to know how to watch Amazon Prime outside US borders if you want to have access to all of the content on there. Otherwise, you can end up not being able to watch some things or having to pay extra to do so.

Which One Gets More New Content?

In addition to knowing which platform has more content, knowing which one gets more new content will also help you choose which streaming platform is best. Some of them might have a lot on there now but can be slow to add anything new. The truth is that it depends on what you’re looking for. In 2021, Netflix was the one to add more original content than other streaming services, with Amazon coming in second. Meanwhile, Amazon added the most movies. Of course, some content added will be brand new and sometimes original and exclusive. But other content will be older stuff that you might or might not be interested in.

Which Streaming Service Has the Best App?

A streaming service might have plenty of content, but none of that means a lot if it doesn’t work well or offer a good user experience. It’s not fun struggling to try and get an app or website to work or having to suffer through poor quality. Firstly, you will want to check which devices you can get the app on. Most streaming services will offer multiple options but if you want it to work on your smart TV or other specific devices, make sure you check before signing up.

How to Have It All: Rotate Your Subscriptions

Not sure which streaming service could be right for you? First of all, take advantage of the free trials so you can test them out. Just remember to pay attention to when the trial will finish so you can cancel it if you want to. Secondly, consider rotating your subscriptions if you want to benefit from content on different platforms while saving money. You can keep one subscription for a month or two before cancelling and signing up for another. You can always sign up for any of them again if you feel like it.

Choosing the right streaming services can be tough, but you don’t need them all. Compare them to find out which ones offer the best content for you.
