Why the casting announcement for Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man at the Royal Albert Hall is exciting

Awhile back we had a bit of fun and did our dream casting for Matthew Bourne’s The Car Man. It hasn’t come true very sadly, but the cast Matthew Bourne and New Adventures have announced for it’s Royal Albert Hall shows is just as exciting.

In June for an extremely limited run of only two weeks Matthew Bourne‘s New Adventures is reimagining The Car Man for some very special performances at The Royal Albert Hall to celebrate the prestigious buildings 150th birthday.

The shows had to be postponed due to covid so fans of Matthew Bourne and his productions have waited years to see The Car Man back on stage.

It’s the first time Matthew Bourne will stage a full-scale production at the iconic Royal Albert Hall.

The reimagined production will feature a company of 65 hugely talented dancers and performers. Accompanied by a 15 piece orchestra, it will see the dancers perform throughout the auditorium with staging created by Tony and Olivier award-winner Lez Brotherston.

Will Bozier and Richard Winsor will take on the role of ‘Luca’. Both performers have long histories with Matthew Bourne and New Adventures, with Will dancing in numerous productions for the company including Edward Scissor Hands, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Swan Lake. While Richard has also featured in various productions including playing the role of ‘Angelo’ in previous productions of The Car Man, he also took on the title role of ‘Dorian Gray,’ in Matthew’s adaptation of the book. He was most recently in The Midnight Bell.

Current Mary Poppins Zizi Strallen returns to the role of ‘Lana’, which she last danced in 2015. She will share the role with the New Adventures critically acclaimed Principal Ashley Shaw who won a National Dance Award for her performance of ‘Vicky Page’ in The Red Shoes.

Dominic North , one of New Adventures’ most popular dancers. Who has danced some of the companies most iconic roles and is also a rehearsal director for the company will share the role of ‘Angelo’. Paris Patrick recently appeared in Matthew Bourne’s The Midnight Bell

The Car Man will also see the return of Alan Vincent, who created the title role of ‘Luca’ when the show very first premiered back in 2000. For this new reimagined version Alan will be taking on the role of ‘Dino’, Lana’s abusive husband.

What’s so exciting is Matthew Bourne is going all out for this very special production bringing back some familiar faces if you’ve been a fan of his work for awhile, but also bringing in new talent by extending the size of the company. It’s sure to be a show that people will talk about for years to come.
